We are looking for any information with regard to the following genealogical line:

CHERRY family of Wayne Co., NC (ca. 1700s-early 1800s):

Roxanna (or Roxanne/Roxie) Marinda Cherry of Wayne County, NC

Ben had a brother named Jacob Herring. Ben and Jacob were sons of Jacob Herring, Jr., and Dorcas Stanley. Jacob Herring, Jr., was a son of Jacob Herring, Sr., of Wayne Co., North Carolina. Jacob Sr. is accepted as a son of Abraham Herring and Mary Williams. Abraham was a son of Anthony Herring and Rebecca West. Anthony was the son of John Herring, who came to Virginia from England in 1641/2.

Ben had owned about two thousand acres of land in Cass Co., TX, which ultimately was held by his brother, Jacob Herring. Shortly thereafter, Ben died. Whereas Ben’s children were young, Jacob Herring (Ben’s brother) became the guardian of these children. Jacob, the brother of Ben, was a Baptist minister.

A portion of the two thousand acres Ben had owned was subsequently donated to a school, known as the Herring school. [also note: there had been a relatively large "Herring family" cemetery in Cass Co., but there is now no trace of these markers].

These Herrings moved to East Texas from Arkansas, but were [as stated] from North Carolina before moving to Arkansas.

Ben Herring and Roxanna Marinda Cherry had at least one child, a daughter named Dorcas Almeda Herring (born: Mar. 5, 1853 TX; died- Apr. 4, 1890 Cass Co., TX). Almeda was the first wife of Solomon Long, whom she married August 20, 1870, in Cass Co., TX. She died from complications of childbirth. At least six children from this marriage are listed.
