Anna Rutledge Preece died in childbirth, and her husband had been previously killed by gunshot, supposedly by indians. Their son was raised by T. L. and Mariah.

W. M. Preece was killed by gunshot (see 1870 mortality schedule), supposedly by Indians, and his wife died in childbirth. Their son was raised by his Rutledge grandparents. Anna Melissa Rutledge and William Martin Preece had the following children:
