FINAL RITES HELD FOR DR. W. M. HOUGHTON MONDAY AFTERNOON

Dr. W. M. Houghton, 73 yeard old Floyd county physician, was buried Monday afternoon in the Floydada cemetery following final rites at the First Christian church with Rev. L. W. Bridges, officiating.

He was reared at Pond Springs in Williamson County, and made his home in Beaukiss from 1901 until 1917, when he moved to Floyd county. He was married to Miss Howell Chapman in 1903.

Dr. Houghton had been practicing medicine in Floydada since he moved here in '17. He is a graduate of the Galveston Medical school. He took a lively interest in civic affairs and served as president of the Rotary club soon after it was organized here.

Dr. Houghton is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Aubrey A. Bishop, Dallas; three sons, Ira Houghton, T. M. Houghton, and Waldo Houghton; a sister, Mrs. D. Johnson, San Antonio, and a brother, Fred Houghton, San Angelo.

Pallbearers were J. A. Arwine, W. Edd Brown, L. T. Bishop, J. B. Claiborne, Lon Davis, and J. C. Wester.

He was married to Sarah Chapman (daughter of William M. Chapman and Lavina Ann Hyland) on 15 Oct 1892 in Williamson County, Texas. Sarah Chapman was born on 12 Sep 1872 in Pond Springs, Williamson County, Texas. She died on 29 Dec 1899 in Pond Springs, Williamson County, Texas. She was buried in Pond Springs Cemetery, Williamson County, Texas. William Mortimer Houghton and Sarah Chapman had the following children:

He was married to Howell Chapman (daughter of William M. Chapman and Lavina Ann Hyland) on 5 Sep 1903 in Williamson County, Texas. Howell Chapman was born on 11 Feb 1888 in Pond Springs, Williamson County, Texas. She died on 23 Nov 1958 in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas. (774) She was buried in Floydada Cemetery, Floydada, Texas.
Mrs. Sarah Houghton's gravestone reads "She is waiting for us in the glorious Edenland which lies beyond the sunset of life".

Mrs. Howell Houghton moved from Floydada to Amarillo in 1948 to live near her son, Waldo.

MRS. HOUGHTON IS CLAIMED; BURIAL RITES HERE

Mrs. Howell Houghton, 70, wife of the late Dr. W. M. Houghton of Floydada, passed in Northwest Texas hospital in Amarillo Sunday following a short illness.

Funeral rites were conducted in the First Christian Church in Amarillo Monday. The body was brought to Floydada by Boxwell Brothers and graveside rites were held at 4 p.m. She was buried beside her husband. One son preceded her in death.

Born Feb. 11, 1888, in Round Rock, Mrs. Houghton moved to Amarillo about 10 years ago from Floydada.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Waldo Houghton of Amarillo, one daughter, Mrs. Aubrey Bishop of Dallas, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.



William Mortimer Houghton and Howell Chapman had the following children:
