Fred C. Houghton Rites Set Today

Services for Fred C. Houghton, 82, will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Johnson Street Church of Christ with Stanley Maiden and D. L. Harguess officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery directed by Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. Houghton, a longtime San Angelo Telephone Co. employee, died at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday in Shannon Hospital.

He was born May 29, 1888 in Williamson County and was married to Jannie Luttrell Oct. 2, 1906 in San Angelo. She died June 17, 1970. He was an elder of the Johnson Street Church of Christ.

He was a streetcar con-ductor for the San Angelo Street Railway for about three and a half years before joining the San Angelo Telephone Co. in 1915. He retired in 1953 after 38 years with the company.

He had also authored a book, "Observations of a Texas Longhorn," which was a collection of humorous, homespun philosophy.

Survivors include a son, Lynn Houghton of San Angelo; a daughter, Miss Doney Houghton of Los Angeles, Calif. and three grandsons.

Pallbearers will be J. D. Davis, Floyd Wall, Harold Ensminger, Weldon Surber.

He was married to Janie Elizabeth Lutrell on 20 Oct 1906 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas.(794) Janie Elizabeth Lutrell was born on 17 Jan 1890 in Grayson County, Texas. She died on 17 Jun 1970 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. (795) She was buried in Fairmont Cemetery, San Angelo, Texas.

Services Thursday For Mrs. Houghton

Mrs. Jannie Luttrell Houghton, 80, of 16 N. Jackson died at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday in Park Plaza-Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Robert Massie Funeral Home Chapel with C. A. Harguess; minister of Western Hills Church of Christ, and Stan Maiden, minister of Johnson Street Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Mrs. Houghton was born Jan. 17, 1890 in Grayson County. She was married to Fred Houghton Oct. 20, 1906 at San Angelo. She had lived here for 70 years.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Lynn Houghton of San Angelo; a daughter, Doney Houghton of Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother, J. C. Luttrell of Abilene and three grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Ed White, R. H. Moos, Homer Jordan Jr., Marvin Barnes, Marvin Allen and Dick Swindoll, all of San Angelo.
