Jack was a veteran of World War I, where he was Corporal HO Det 35 Division and was wounded, and returned to Austin in 1935, and lived in his parents house at 4005 Guadalupe until the time of his death.

He was married to Caroline McCune on 12 Dec 1920 in Kansas City, Missouri.⁽¹⁰¹¹⁾
