IRA HOUGHTON

TAYLOR - Funeral for Ira Houghton, 77, of Elgin, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Beaukiss United Methodist Church near Taylor, with Rev. Roland Humphries and Rev. Howard Buchanan officiating.

Burial will be in the Lawhon Springs Cemetery under the direction of Condra Funeral Home of Taylor.

Houghton died Saturday in a Taylor hospital. He was a retired mail carrier, a lifelong resident of this area and a member of the Beaukiss United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Odessa Houghton of Elgin; three daughters, Mrs. Faye Devis of Midland, Mrs. Howard Buchanan of Kerrville and Mrs. Harold Eastman of Newark, Ohio; a son, Wayne Houghton of Barstow, Calif.; a half-sister, Mrs. Aubrey Bishop of Dallas; a half-brother, Dr. Waldo Houghton of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was married to Odessa Mae Oliver (daughter of Edwin Phillips Oliver and Hattie McGinnis) in 1914. Odessa Mae Oliver was born on 16 Feb 1895 in Beaukiss, Williamson County, Texas. She died on 3 Nov 1980 in Williamson County, Texas. (1259) She was buried in Lawhon Springs Cemetery, Lee County, Texas.

HOUGHTON, MRS. Ira L., 85, of Elgin, died Monday. Services 2 p.m. today at Beaukiss Unitd Methodist Church. Burial Lawhon Springs Cemetery.

Survivors, son, Wayne C. Houghton of Barstow, Calif.; daughters, Mrs. Howard Buchanan of Thorndale, Mrs. Harold Eastman of Newark, Ohio, sister, Mrs. Forrest Simmons of Lubbock; brothers, Eugene Oliver of Thrall, Norman Oliver of Houston; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
