Mrs. Stanford's Funeral Slated Today In City

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the Calvary Baptist Church for Mrs. J. C. Stanford, 81, Rt. 4, Lubbock.

Mrs. Stanford, a resident of Lubbock County 53, years, died at 5:40 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's
Hospital, following three years' ill health.

She entered the hospital at 2:45 a.m. Monday.

Pallbearers Named

Officiating at services will be the Rev. Claude Cone, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Crandall, assisted by the Rev. Morris Pruitt, pastor of the Slide Baptist Church.

Burial will be in City of Lubbock Cemetery under direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ed Barclay, Cecil Bradshaw, George Hindman, Boyd Watkins, Clarence Eads and J. T. Ellison.

Married In Plainview

Mrs. Stanford, the former Lil-lian Hartson, and her husband were married in 1908 at Plainview- and lived near Slide from 1908 to 1925. Since 1925, she had lived on Rt. 4, at what now is 82nd St. and
Indiana Ave. Her husband died in 1958.

Mrs. Stanford was born Aug. 7, 1879, in Williamson County and lived there until her marriage.

Mrs. Stanford was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include four sons, L. D., Rt. 4, Lubbock, D. L., Stonewall, Okla., J. B., Floyd, N. M., and W. M., El Paso; one daughter, Mrs. Winnie Moore, Portales, N. M.; one sister, Mrs. Ottie Hartson, Austin: 12 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

She was married to Joel Crockett Stanford (son of Andrew Jackson Stanford and Eliza Cherry) on 10 Nov 1908 in Plainview, Hale County, Texas. Joel Crockett Stanford was born on 12 Feb 1874 in Travis County, Texas. He appeared on the census on 9 May 1910 in JP #1, Lubbock County, Texas.(990) He appeared on the census on 20 Feb 1920 in JP #6, Lubbock County, Texas. (991) He appeared on the census on 14 Apr 1930 in JP #1, Lubbock County, Texas.(992) He died on 14 Jan 1958 in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. (993) He was buried in City of Lubbock Cemetery, Lubbock, Texas.

Mr. Stanford came to Lubbock from Williamson County in 1900. He settled in the Slide community. He lived there until he moved to Indiana Avenue and 82nd Street in Lubbock in 1926.

Joel C. Stanford, Pioneer Lubbock Area Farmer, Dies

Joel C. Stanford. 84, pioneer Lubbock County farmer, died at 2 a.m. today in St. Mary's Hospital. He had been in ill health several months and was admitted to the hospital Saturday.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Claude Cone, pastor of the Slide Baptist Church, of which Stanford was a member, officiating. Assisting in the services will be the Rev. R. A. McGrew assistant pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.

Born Near Austin

Burial will be in City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

Born Feb. 12, 1874, near Austin, Stanford came to Lubbock County from Williamson County in 1906 and settled in the Slide community. He lived there until 1926 when he moved to the present family home at Indiana Ave. and 82nd St.

Survivors include the widow: one daughter, Mrs. Winnie Moore, Portales N. M.: four sons, D. L. Stanford, Ada, Okla., J. B. Stanford, Floyd, N. M., W. M. Stanford, El Paso, and L. D. Stanford, Rt. 4, Lubbock; two brothers, L. T. Stanford, Fort Worth, and Pearly Stanford, Driscoll, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. J. T. Spencer. Liberty Hill; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
