Rutledge on 20 Mar 1905 in Lampasas County, Texas.⁽⁸⁵⁵⁾ He appeared on the census on 28 Apr 1910 in Portales, Roosevelt County, New Mexico. ⁽⁸⁵⁶⁾ He appeared on the census on 16 Jan 1920 in Elm Springs Township, Washington County, Arkansas.⁽⁸⁵⁷⁾ He appeared on the census on 12 Apr 1930 in Silsbee, Imperial County, California. ⁽⁸⁵⁸⁾ He died on 25 Nov 1958 in Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas. He was buried in Friendship Cemetery, Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas.

"...parents were William Martin Preece and Mary Margaret Wapas, both born in texas and moved to Arkansas while quite young. william was born August 19, 1870 and died November 25, 1958. Mary was born December 22, 1874, and died December 4, 1960. Both are buried in Friendship, near Springdale, Arkansas. The Preeces lived in California for 7 years, ran a dairy."

He was married to Mary Margaret Wapas (daughter of Isaac Wapas and Francis Beery) on 15 Oct 1891 in Lampasas, Lampasas County, Texas. Mary Margaret Wapas was born on 22 Dec 1874 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. She died on 4 Dec 1960 in Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas.
