Jasper Newton East


Mr. Jasper Newton East, 92, of Dale passed away Sunday morning, March 2, 1996, in San Marcos.

Mr. East was born In Llano County, June 30, 1893, to Albert and Eliza Rutledge East. He was united In marriage to Ruth Looney, Beeville. Texas. September 18, 1926. Mr. East was a veteran of World War I and member of the Dale Church of Christ. Mr. East came to the Austin area in 1911, where for five years he served as a streetcar conductor. He was extensively involved In the cattle and produce businesses in South and Central Texas, for over 50 years. He was on the last cattle drive to cross the Congress Ave. bridge In Austin.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 4, 1986, from the chapel of the Eeds Funeral Home, Lockhart, Brother Elmor Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Bunton Cemetery In Dale.

Serving as pallbearers: Sam White, Jimmy Parker, Chuck George, Edwin Hermme, Charles Herbert. M.B. Shirley.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth, Dale; two sons, Albert East, Austin, and Phillip East, Dale; five daughters, Margaret Robbins, Bronte, Texas, Willie Turner and Patsy Forrest, both of Richardson, Lois Wheless, Greenwood, South Carolina, and Maxine Kolb, Salado, Texas; 36 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
