143. William Pinckney Rutledge was born on 9 Jan 1846 in Maury County, Tennessee. (118) He signed a voter list indicating he was a resident of the county 4 years, and state 14 years in 1867 in Travis County, Texas. (404) He appeared on the census in Jun 1900 in Alice Avenue, Precinct #3, 6th Ward, Austin, Texas.(405) He died on 3 Jun 1907 in Austin, Travis County, Texas.

Lived at Alice Ave., Precinct #3, 6th Ward, Austin, Travis County, Texas, in 1900 (ED 92, sh 8a, p. 93a, lines 34-39, #163/163, widower, nursery hand, married 12 years). In the 1900/01 and 1903/04 Austin City directory, Pink is shown at "ws Georgetown Road, 4 blocks north of west of 38th".

In 1906, W. P. Rutledge was awarded three sections of land in Webb County, Texas, from the General land Office of the State of Texas. These were located 36 miles east of Laredo, Texas. They were known as 1) the W. D. Stephenson Survey No. 2161, Certificate No. 1546, the Julia A. Flippin Survy No. 771, and Section 460, certificate No. 854. The first two tracts were purchased for $2 per acre and the third for $2.50 per acre. W. P. Rutledge actually only paid one fortieth of the price as a downpayment on a forty year payout to the state.

In June, 1907, Ruteledge died while travelling to Austin. His brother John W. Rutledge was appointed administrator of his estate, which was filed in Webb County, No. 531. The land was sold by Rutledge for $7,836 or $4.08 per acre. and distributed to his children in case #3248, Travis County. The land later became part of a large oil field.

He was married to Isabelle Gower Lane (daughter of Bennet A. Gower and Ann Eliza Kelso) on 3 Nov 1887 in Williamson County, Texas.(406) Isabelle Gower Lane was born in 1865 in Lawrence County, Tennessee. She died on 11 May 1899 in Austin, Travis County, Texas. William Pinckney Rutledge and Isabelle Gower Lane had the following children:
