Descendants of William Rutledge

William Rutledge was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, in June, 1756, probably the son of Isaac and Mary Rutledge. He was a Revolutionary War Veteran, enlisting in Rowan County in 1777. Near the end of the War, he married Chloe Johnson on April 3, 1782, in Wilkes County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Jeffrey Johnson and Rachel Walker.

William Rutledge moved to Maury County, Tennessee about 1795, and to Wayne County, Tennessee in 1829, dying there about 1835. Chloe died about 1813 in Maury County, and is probably buried in the Dooley Cemetery. William Rutledge married a second time in 1814 to Margaret Carson Reed, widow of John Reed. Margaret died in 1829. The burial place of William Rutledge is unknown, but probably in Wayne County, Tennessee.

Willliam Rutledge lived at Wilkes County, North Carolina, in 1790, Maury County, Tennessee in 1811 and 1820, and Wayne County, Tennessee in 1830. He filed a claim for a Revolutionary War pension in 1832 from Wayne County, Tennessee.
