- a new organization claiming to be a resurrected version
of the Tampa Bay
Composers' Forum is seeking
membership support. The Florida Composers Forum does
not represent a
continuation of the original Tampa Bay Composers'
Forum. The original Festival of Living Music Chamber Music Competition
is not a program of
this new organization as well. As of 12/05, the Florida Composers Forum
has not registered with Division of Consumer Services for the State of

The Tampa Bay Composers’ Forum was a 501(c3) non-profit arts organization based in St. Petersburg, Florida with 14 seasons of concerts, workshops, and other new music activities. It was founded in 1989 by Vernon Taranto and presented the works of over 250 composers during its tenure. Venues included the Palladium Theater, St. Petersburg College, Gulf Coast Museum of Arts, Salvador Dali Museum, Eckerd College and others. Long term members of the organization included Joan Epstein, Vernon Taranto, David Manson, Wayne Berman and Peter Blauvelt. David Manson wrote all the grants awarded to the organization and was executive director from 1995 until 2003. The organization received support from the City of St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Arts Council, Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, Southern Arts Federation and Meet The Composer. Between 1992-2003 the TBCF supported local musicians with over $70,000 in performance fees. Visiting artists received a little more than $38,000. The EMIT series generated 73.5% of the total concert revenue for the TBCF from its inception (1995) until 2003. The Tampa Bay Composers' Forum was dissolved in 2003 by the motion of former president, A. Paul Johnson. The EMIT series continues as a separate nonprofit presenter and won an adventurous programming award from Chamber Music America & ASCAP in 2005. An authentic Festival of Living Music may soon be reestablished. |
