COMMUNITY RESIDENCIES WITH ELISE WITT
From the melodies of her birthplace in Switzerland, from the rhythms of Africa and Latin America, from her North Carolina childhood, to the writing of her own songs, Elise's music is a gumbo that spans styles, genres, countries, and times. Solo or with her Mezzanine Band, Elise calls her music GLOBAL, LOCAL & HOMEMADE SONGS. In concert you may hear Fats Waller's You're My Dish, Chilean Violeta Parra's Gracias a la Vida (thanks to life), songs by contemporary songwriters like Joyce Brookshire and Walter Hyatt, as well as Elise's own compositions.
But Elise's work is not solely as a performing artist. Much of Elise's time is spent in Community Residencies where she uses music as a tool to help people find their own voices and to build community through group singing.
COMMUNITY RESIDENCIES CAN INCLUDE:
SINGING FOR FUN WORKSHOPS
For adults who think they can't carry a tune in a bucket or anyone who wants to have fun singing in an ensemble. These workshops and classes focus on the enjoyment of singing while also working with the basics of breath, muscle control, tone production, and vocal technique. Repertoire includes rounds and songs from around the world. Music reading is not a pre-requisite. Even self professed "non-singers" find themselves at the end of the first hour singing in glorious 3-7 part harmony.
