Biographical Information

Dr. Erik Fisher is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Georgia, who has dedicated his career and personal life to the advancement of human potential in the physical, mental and spiritual realms. His personal philosophy is that every person holds the key to their own potential, and their goal is to seek it out.

Dr. Fisher graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and completed a Senior Honors Thesis that examined personality profiles of individuals with Eating Disorders.  Upon beginning his graduate education at The University of South Florida, the emphasis of his research moved toward examining the various precursors to body image disturbance, a common factor in the development of eating disorders.  His thesis supported that a strategic combination of anaerobic and aerobic exercise can work as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy at reducing body image dissatisfaction.  His doctoral dissertation involved the successful development of a theory of social body site comparison and how body comparison contributes to body image disturbance in males and females.  His dissertation also included body builders as a sample group, which shed some light on the motivations of body builders to maintain their body mass and physique. In the process of pursuing his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, he obtained a minor in Sport Psychology.

Throughout his graduate education, he presented various lectures in the public schools on body image disturbance and eating disorders. After completing his degree, he began working with children and adults with attention deficit disorders and was co-creator of The ADDvantage Program, which was designed to address the needs of individuals and families with attention deficit disorder throughout the life-span. His success with this population is, in part, due to his own experiences with ADD and his ability to identify with these individuals. Since the inception and ultimate closure of The ADDvantage Program, Dr. Fisher has presented many lectures and workshops, as well as a half-hour television interview. His emphases on ADD focus on the emotional consequences of ADD as well as the strengths and gifts of individuals with ADD.

Dr. Fisher has completed writing his second book, From Victim to Victor, which discusses various the concepts of power and how our emotions affect our sense of personal power. The book discusses individual power struggles, family and intimate relationship issues, as well as other life interactive experiences where power issues occur.  Evolution of the Soul, is Dr. Fisher's first book, which is a combination of poems, perspectives and philosophies on life that he has written over a period of years. The purpose of Evolution of the Soul, is to help people evaluate and chart their own evolution through their interpretations of the perspectives. This bibliotherapy technique, using his manuscript, has proven very valuable to therapy clients, and its publication came at the urging of clients who felt it may help others find their own paths.

To aid in building credibility in corporate markets, Dr. Fisher is seeking a consultant on developing the ideas presented in From Victim to Victor into a business-training program. Similar to Total Fitness: Body and Mind Fit for Life, he also has plans of ultimately developing the material in his most recent book for children and adolescents as an educational program in the schools. The focus of the program would be on building emotional intelligence through understanding the purpose and productive use of emotion.

In October of 2000, Dr. Fisher was one of four featured professionals in a documentary, “The Gift of Knowing” that featured the lives, work, and techniques of these professionals. This documentary is currently in editing and is expected to be aired on The Learning Channel, Discovery Channel, or Showtime in 2001. Dr. Fisher has also been invited to provide radio show interviews and is a news consultant for WGST and WGUN radio in Atlanta.

In his private practice, he continues to work with a wide range of issues including body image enhancement, sport psychology, and performance enhancement, as well as focusing on spiritual issues and personal growth, Depression and Anxiety Disorders, therapy with children and adults with Attention Deficit Disorders, Learning Disorders, Tourette's Disorder, couples therapy, and innovative techniques using hypnotherapy.
