Narcotic Treatment Programs Directory

This reference, issued by the FDA, is a list of all facilities approved to dispense methadone for the treatment of addiction, including prisons, hospitals, and abstinence-oriented programs providing methadone assisted withdrawal. It also contains state and federal contact information. Available online and in print.

The online directory, updated quarterly, is in PDF format which requires the free Adobe Acrobat PDF file viewer to read or print. Download the directory from the FDA's Office of Compliance page, or from the following link:

National Directory of Drug Abuse and Alcoholism Treatment and Prevention Programs

This reference is a list of drug and alcohol treatment facilities, state authorities, and prevention contacts put together by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Though the directory does list methadone programs, I have found that it is incomplete, partly because the last edition is dated 1997. Sometimes one can find a little extra information about the programs that it does list, such as a second telephone number or fax line, which can make this directory a useful companion to the Narcotic Treatment Programs Directory mentioned above.

The online directory is a database of drug and alcohol treatment facilities which is searchable by a number of criteria including city, state, type of facility, type of care, and types of third party payments.
