Joseph Fancher of Cape May County, New Jersey
Joseph Fancher was in Cape May County, New Jersey as early as 1765 when he was involved in a Court of Common Pleas lawsuit. In the will of Richard Downs in 1747, he was mentioned as having married a granddaughter of Downs. He may have been born as early as 1727.
One Abigail Fancher married March 3, 1773, Cape May County to Stephen Foster according to Cape May Baptist Church records. William Hoyt Fancher attributed this woman as the daughter of Richard Fancher of Morris County, New Jersey, but it is more plausible that she was the daughter of Joseph.
Mr. Fancher is included in county records of Cape May County from 1765 until 1785. He was probably connected with the Fanchers for New York-Connecticut area.
