Ward 81

Welcome to our house. Our friend Rocky dubbed it Ward 81 after a song by the Fuzztones about an insane asylum

We have a funny little cottage. You had to walk around the entire house to get to the other side! So we removed closets from either side of the fire place to make a walkway from the living room into what will be our record room. When I went to paint the walkway, original wall paper still covered old plaster. It began to fall down. So I used quilt batting and leopard print fun fur to cover it up! A little nook in the wall (not pictured) became a closet covered with a red velvet curtain, and since we have no real entrance I made a shelf and hung a light. The fire place is old brick. I just painted it. The unexciting mantle was really gunked up from a million coats of paint which would not come off. So I made a plywood cover for it trimmed in bamboo. I liked the grate so I painted it, and I replaced the hearth with a mosaic of tiles, gold plastic musical notes and a favorite 45. Bamboo edges it.

Our ceilings are hiddeous through the house. The livingroom had a tile ceiling which wasn't even track hung. So it was all removed and we stapled on some reed which came in rolls and nailed up the bamboo as edging. It was the perfect fix!

The original bathroom to the house had sadly been removed and replaced with an enclosed plywood monstrosity. It was so ugly we have no "before" pictures! Now it looks like someone burped a bit of pink medicine all over it! I didn't want tile. EVERYONE has tile! So the floor is black speckled linoleum. The top of the walls and the ceiling is a two tone pink glaze with 40's nudie cuties done in silouettes. Something to counteract the pink poodleness for the hubby. The lower half of the walls is just wall compound texturized to look like bad 50's adobe and painted. The room went from terribly cramped to amazingly spacious! I even have room for my vanity and lots of poodles!
