We like most of you are having a very hot summer. We are delighted that thus far we are not seeing tropical storms or hurricanes. We are still catching rides to and from the Islands with various friends. We discovered information about our former engine on the plane that makes us more and more thankful every day to be alive. We endured several delays before we could tear down the old engine. The State of Texas delayed us 5 days on moving the plane on the truck. The FAA delayed us about 3 weeks before permission was given to disassemble the case. When the parts were sent to the machine shop to be magnafluxed and checked, every part failed. The owner of the machine shop called to see if this was an airboat engine? All of the rods had been illegally ground down to balance them. It is evident that the log books were falsified! It has taken a good deal of time to find all new parts, but the task now seems to be done, and we hope to have the plane ready in a couple of weeks. I will fly to Texas and bring it back.
The work in the Bahamas is going well. Dinah and I rejoice every day in the growth and maturity of the Island congregations. They are doing a great job of teaching and evangelizing, as well as reaching out to smaller churches in the Bahamas. In addition, several have contributed to the new engine on the plane. The Church in Marsh Harbour gave $2000. Highbury Park in Nassau gave $500 and the little congregation in Rock Sound gave $250. We are thankful to them and to each of you for your assistance in getting the plane in a safe condition to continue using it in the work.
I was in Marsh Harbour to speak at the funeral of a friend. We had known each other 25 years. Eddie was about my age. When we watch friends our age die around us, it causes us to realize that we are no longer middle age. Jason and Katrinka and the Marsh Harbour congregation continue to have daily Bible Studies. Every afternoon one or two of the rooms at the building were being used for studies with either prospects or new Christians. The congregation continues to give support to Lincoln Young in Rock Sound, Eleuthera, and to give to their own building fund. Progress is being made on the new classroom building. Building in the summer time always seems slow. A Vacation Bible School, and two evangelistic efforts will soon take place. Groups will be arriving from both Florida and Texas.
Lincoln Young has groups coming in for the summer to conduct a Vacation Bible School and do evangelistic meetings. They recently had a baptism in Rock Sound. The congregation continues to reach out in spite of the fact that the economy is failing and young people continue to move away to look for jobs. Lincoln has a number of good programs going and spirits are high.
The church in Freeport has just completed a special evangelistic effort with brethren from Cooksville, TN. They had very good attendance averaging about 200 at each service. Tbehree precious souls were brought to the Lord. We look for good things in the future as they continue to follow up with those who have shown and interest in spiritual things. The Theme was, "The Battle For your Soul". Kevin White was the speaker.
We are pleased with the progress being made with the new congregation in Exuma. Steve McQueen and family are making adjustments very well after moving out of the city. Mike Gurganus and brethren from Georgia continue to support this great work. Back in May a group of ten including college students arrived with a program which they did in the schools called "Colors of the Cross". Mike and others also met with primary school teachers and shared a program with them called "Peace Rug". This is a program designed to help children understand how to deal safely with conflict. They then were invited to share this program in 8 primary schools. This month, 19th-30th will be the Mission Bible Camp and Gospel Meeting. Lincoln Young and I are to be the speakers on Sunday the 25th. A brother in Ringgold, Georgia, recently donated a 1994 Honda for use in the work, and at long last the McQueen's have transportation that is dependable. Dinah has received a sewing machine and materials for Suzette. She will teach her how to sew. This will be a great help with the three children. Steve continues to hand out World Bible School studies, and the students make up most of the visitors to the services. Personal Bible Studies continue with the students and the opportunities for more students abound.
Dinah and I have visited a number of congregations in Florida. Materials for distribution in the Bahamas are mounting. I estimate that we have about 3 plane loads of Bibles, World Bible School materials, and even a new computer given to Jason Quashie by the brethren at the Highland congregation in Lakeland, Florida. We are anxious to get the new engine finished and get back to the full activities of our work. The young people from Longmire Road in Conroe, Texas have presented their second check for $1000 for Bibles. We are so thrilled with the devotion of these kids, and with the fact that young people in the Bahamas are using these Bibles to learn and grow. The presentation of nice Bibles to the youth in the Bahamas has sparked a lot of enthusiasm.
We continue to be thankful to you for your prayers and support. Checks for this work can be made out to Bahama Mission Church of Christ, and sent to:
