Sometimes we wonder when it will ever end. Tropical Storm Jeanne is at 60 mph and will go to Hurricane sometime today ( 75 mph). It is pointed at the Bahamas and looks like the same tract as Francis. Our hearts and prayers go out to those about to be hit by Ivan. There are still hundreds of thousands in Florida without power. Lines are shorter for water and ice, and most of the FEMA water and ice aid has been pulled out to the north to be ready to help after Ivan hits. I did see ice in the Gro. store yesterday for the first time with a 2 bag limit.
The death toll on Ivan has hit 65 known. Talked with Steve McQueen early this morning in Exuma, Bahamas. His wife heard from her family in Jamaica and they are ok.Jamaica has been hard hit. Steve is still trying to find out more about the congregations in the Island. No word from Cayman and the Bothwell family. Still trying: Phones are off and on in most of the Bahama Islands. Lincoln had light damage to his house and the building was blasted with heavy rain that removed most of the paint. This is common all over the Bahamas. Roof damage is everywhere, but food and water is the priority. We are hoping to get the hole in the roof where the steeple was in Abaco covered better before Jeanne hits. The church in Nassau got some water to the brethren in Freeport. The Deveaux family hopes the water they got before Francis will hold out past Jeanne.
A 40 foot container is to be shipped today out of Healing Hands in Nashville to help the brethren in Freeport. They had almost 300 people in their building as a shelter. Food and water is scarce and power is not expected back on for some time. More than 900 power poles were down. $7000 for this shipment was given by Whites Ferry Road Relief Ministries. We are most thankful to these brethren in both places for the long hours and great work they do world wide.
I will go for the plane as soon as the Hurricanes get out of the way. Water has receded from most of the runways if not the airports in the Bahamas. Now we may get flooded again with Jeanne.
I heard from Luis Pedraza in Cuba, and all the brethren are ok. He said it had been a long hard week after Francis, and they were thankful that Ivan just touched the western tip. Do not know how much help we can get to them as Castro is refusing US aid.
More later. Pray for all the victims. Checks to help can be made to: Bahama Mission Church of Christ, and mailed
