WILLIAM GILBERT
In 1770's, WILLIAM GILBERT of TYRON CO, NC, Broadriver area sold a slave,
FRANK, To the Wachovia Administration of Salem, NC (What was and still is a
Moravian Community located in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co., NC). FRANK was
a native African and worked as a mason's assistant before transferring to
Bethabra. He later married a native African, PATTY, aka ANNA, NANCY who
also belonged to the Wachovia Administration. Any information on and/or
documents regarding these transactions would be greatly appreciated by

ABIJAH ELMORE, ALEXANDER HAWKINS, THOMAS JOHNSON
In the middle 1700's ALEXANDER HAWKINS sold a slave named JACOB to the
Wachovia Association of Salem, NC. In June 1791, ABIJAH ELMORE of Surry
Co. bought JACOB, then sold him to THOMAS JOHNSON for 20 pounds. He
worked in the Salem Tavern at Salem, NC until being sold. Any information
on and/or documents regarding these transactions would be greatly

JOHN LYNCH, GEORGE HAUSER
In 1783 the Wachovia Association of Salem, NC (now Winston-Salem, NC)
bought a slave named LOUISA from JOHN LYNCH, a farmer from Surry County.
In 1791 Louisa was sold to GEORGE HAUSER, a blacksmith in Bethania. Any
information on JOHN LYNCH, or the transactions of this sale, would be

ISIAH SPURGEON
In 1812 the Wachovia Administration of Salem, NC purcased from Isiah
Spurgeon of Rowan Co., a slave named Ann, who was the daughter of slaves
Phoebe and Bodney. The Forsyth County Genealogical Society is seeking
more info on Spurgeon and any other slave transactions by him or his

Seeking parents/siblings/relatives of ROBERT YOUNG HUDSON. Family Bible
states birth as Dec 25 1877 Rockford WSNC. Entered Oxford Orphanage Feb
1888 at age 9 (making birth year 1879). Orphanage records state unnamed
mother died 1886. Have been unable to locate any female Hudson who died
in 1886. Rockford Census for 1880 lists a Samuel Hudson, born Sept 1879
in the household of Dicey Hudson, widow of Young Hudson and listed asgrandson. There are a number of simularities between the Young Hudson
family and my Robert. I believe this Samuel to be my Robert but can not
prove it. Any info on this family of Hudsons is appreciated. (757)851-

Samuel Zimmerman (m 1796). They had several children including Danielin 1803. They moved to Indiana about 1813. His parents were

J. T. Owen m. Pearl Vaughn, Aug 2, 1913 in Lexington, Davidson Co NC. He was a resident of Forsyth Co. His parents were living in McDowell Co in 1913. They were W. M. Owens and Octavia ?. Pearl's parents were Will Vaugh, deceased by 1913 and Flora Vaughn m. 1) Will Vaughn and m. 2) H. B. (Harrison?) Brown. Flora and H. B. Brown are buried at Antioch Baptist Church, Winston Salem, NC. Beverly Vaugh married Mary A. BOSTICK 4 March, 1856 in Stokes Co NC. They had (at least) the following children: William Vaughn (b. 1859); Mary Jane (b. ca. 1862) m. Newton Spears; Flora (Mae?) Vaughn (b. ca. 1867). Flora may have m. 1) Will Vaughn (cousin?) and m. 2) H. B. Brown ca. 1900-1905. Flora Brown died 1948 and is buried at Antioch Baptist cemetery, Winston Salem, Forsyth Co., NC with her second husband H. B. Brown (possibly Harrison Brown aka Ed). Flora Vaughn was the dau. of Mary Bostick and Beverly (also known as Ed) Vaughn. Flora's children were Edney b. 1887, Carry, b. 1888, Gene W. or James W. b. 1892, Bert b. 1893, Flip or Tulip b. 1897 (possibly this is Pearl). Peral m. J. T. Looking for information on Samuel Henry Shackelford's parents. Sam was b. 30 Jan 1803 in Caroline VA. M. Dec 3 1822 in Danbury, Stokes Co NC to Mary Jane ABBOTT, b. Dec 3 1802 in Mariesville, Halifax Co VA, dau. of Joseph Abbott and Elizabeth PRIDDY. Mary Jane d. bef 1860 in Danbury. Sam died 20 Jan 1866 in Richards, Vernon Co, MO. I have word that his father was George Shackelbord, BUT i can't find a George that shows to have had a son Samuel, so he could be George's nephew instead. Jacob C. Newsom II, born 1762 in Southampton Co VA , lived in Halifax Co, VA., Raleigh NC, Guilford Co, NC and in the portion of Stokes Co NC that later became Forsyth. He married Lucy Barham and had 6 sons: Gilliam, Thomas T., James, H. B., Jacob C., III, William, Hartwell B. Hartwell B. Looking for any information available on descendants of Abraham Weaver, b. ca. 1760s VA. Moved to Guilford Co NC around 1800-1805. Had children Amos, James I. Abraham M. Jane, Martha, Betsy. Son Amos lived in Iredell, Alamance, and Johnston counties before moving to Arkansas ca. 1886. James remained in Guilford Co. DAVIS MILITARY SCHOOL
Looking for information on this school that moved from it's old campus in LaGrange, NC to the town of Winston in Sept of 1890. Col. A. C. Davis established this school. He was the son of Dr. A. C. Davis and g-g-grandson of James Davis of Williamsburg who came to NC to be the first State Printer. The school closed ca. 1897. Col. Davis retired to Guilford Co and became a lawyer. I am looking for information concerning the family of Leonard HARPER Sr, born bef. 1788 in Peas Creek, NC. (I have been unable to locate this place - has anyone heard of it?) He died 1822, McIntosh Co, GA. I do not know the name of his wife. His son was Leonard Harper Jr b. 1788, Liberty Co GA, d. 1842, Village of Lax, Irwin Co GA. Joseph Howard b. circa 1775 m. Sarah Enochs on 20 Dec, 1796 in Rowan County. Their children Joseph, Susannah and William also appear to have been born in Rowan Co. PATRICK
Robert, William, and John Patrick were in NC as early as 1754. They were members of Col. Cobrin's Militia. Do not know the relation of the three. Many assume Robert to be the father of William and John. A William Patrick (1740 -1818) probated in Rowan Co. and listed 10 children - one named Robert. Would like to know anything about this Robert. My Robert Patrick (1769-1843) died in York Co, SC and is buried in Bethel Cemetery. Want to know if he originated in NC. Thanks. Patsy Price
