"WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT MURMURING & COMPLAINING"

In Philippians 2:14 the Bible says, "Do all things without murmuring and disputing. " In Jude verse 16 the Bible says of a group of people condemned by God, "These are murmurers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage. " Even though it seems a part of human nature God is not pleased when people, especially His people, murmur, complain and grumble about their lot in life.

The Bible says in James 5:9, "Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!" The Bible says that when we complain about something that God has done for us through other people we are actually complaining about God Himself (Exodus 16:7-9). In Job 10:1 the Bible says, "My soul loathes life; I will give free course to my complaint, I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. " This illustrates that complaining and murmuring come from a bitter, unthankful soul. God is not pleased with our inner person if we are this way.

The Bible says that if we have a complaint against someone else we should resolve it personally and forgive whatever caused the complaint (Matthew 18:15-20; Colossians 3:13). In Malachi 3:14 the Bible says, "You have said, It is vain to serve God; what profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, and that we have walked as mourners before the LORD of hosts?" It is truly an empty, bitter way to go through life continually complaining, murmuring and grumbling about the things that happen to us and around us.

Paul tells the church at Corinth that christians should benefit from seeing Old Testament examples of people who constantly murmured and complained against the Lord and were punished for it (1 Corinthians 10:10). Though we live in a time of great dissatisfaction with life on the part of many people, we should not allow this to make us unthankful for all the blessings God has given us (2 Timothy 3:1-5). To be murmurers and complainers would bring upon us the wrath of God (Numbers 11:1).
