Since the 2000 Wave-Gotik Treffen
was marred by mismanagement and the bankrupcy of the organizers,
it was assumed that there would be a smaller turnout this year
than last. While this was true, it seemed that this year's organizers
seriously underestimated the turnout, which was somewhere around
20,000 people. Almost everywhere we went, it was crowds, crowds,
crowds - even the Moritzbastei at sunrise! Here are some pictures
of the crowds of people - also see the show pictures. |

This is one of the main halls at the Agra, where most
of the largest shows were. We guess that you could put 10,000
people inside if you filled it. Look at how many people are in
front of me - can you see how far off the stage is, and how wide
the hall is? |
Crowds flowing in and out of Werk II between Absurd
Minds and Haujobb. The lights way off in the back are along the
top of the stage, and there are thousands of people between me
and the stage! |

Last year, Das Ich played at one of the huge Agra
halls. This year they were at the Parkbühne - with maybe1/8
the capacity. There were many more people that *couldn't* get
in than could. Here's the line of people who couldn't get in,
snaking their way off into the rain. |
And here's a continuation of the line of people outside
Das Ich, none of whom would get in (Shea and I included). I hear
it was a great show, though! That's a raindrop that makes it
look like Shea's head is in a bubble. We stood and danced in
the rain and mud... |

The Moritzbastei is part of the old catacombs
of Leipzig, buried in the ancient city walls. Now a cafe and
entertainment center for the university, it served as a late-night
hangout during the Treffen - and it was packed every night until
sunrise. |
There were as many as 3 dance floors active
in the Moritzbastei, and they were often all full. These pictures
are from the last night of the Treffen, somewhere around 5:00
am - with the sun coming up. We left just before 7:00. |
