Gary Cox's Biography

Gary Duane Cox, singer, historian, linguist, and teacher, was educated in the USA (PhD in Slavic Studies, Columbia University/New York), and has led many tours of east Europe and the former Sovied Union, while running the Russian program at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

He now leads riverboat tours from the North Sea to the Black Sea, and he lives right in the middle of his tours, in Bratislava, capital of the Slovak Republic.
Singing is a central part of Cox's tour directing. He entertains his guests with songs by Schubert, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Musorgsky, Stravinsky, Rakhmaninov, and others, and enriches the songs with lively background about the composers and the home cultures of their creations.
Cox has sung professionally with the Dallas Opera Chorus, in his own madrigal consort at the Colorado Renaissance Festival, and in many churches, and has many times mounted the US semi-professional musical stage in leading roles.
While teaching and performing in Dallas and Denver, Cox regularly gave his "Program of Russian Song" in schools, clubs, churches, and other venues.
As a teacher, Cox ha lectured on just about every aspect of Russian and European history and culture. He has taught Russian for American university students, and English for non-natives both in America and Europe.
