The Golden Pod
It is with warmth and appreciation that we announce the result of Golden Pod Coordinator Dennis Goodwin's attentive and encouraging support. The Briarwood Nursing Center Writers Club's first anthology, The Times of Our Lives is a collection of brief stories and anecdotes from lives richly lived and fondly remembered.
We are very proud to bring this to you and want to express our profound thanks to Dennis for the genuine love he offers the people whom he serves. He is a true exemplar of how things are in the perfect world to which we aspire.
Below you will find the anecdote pictured above. It was written by Robert Willimon.
I was with the Atlanta Constitution for ten years, beginning in the fall of 1952. It was such a thrill to work with people like Celestine Sibley. Her mother, incidentally, came up with the name, "Celestine" from the name of a ship.
I remember some important advice she once gave me. She told me to aside fifteen minutes a day to write things that I wanted to write -- not just the news articles. She said that if you set aside that much time you will usually be able to stretch it into more.
I took her advice and later sold a fiction article. I got fifteen dollars for it. It was worth a lot more in effort but I enjoyed knowing I could write and sell my own stories.
