The passenger list for the May 16, 1752, sailing of the Speedwell from Rotterdam to Halifax shows that Frederick Masson was accompanied by one adult female (presumably his wife), two children between 4 and 16 years old (perhaps 4 to 14 years), and two children under 4. The burial records maintained by Dr. Moreau at Saint John's Anglican Church at Lunenburg, N.S., show the death of a Catherine Masson on 7 September 1753 and the marriage of Frederick Masson on 17 December 1753. Bell shows all the Masson families as coming from Montbaliard - which, in turn, implies that they were on either the Speedwell or the Betty in 1752. There are no Massons on the Betty passenger list. There is a single, unaccompanied, male, 26 year old Masson listed on the Speedwell list right after Frederick, but the name appears to be Francois. It certainly is not a second Frederick. Since none of the Masson children would have been old enough to marry in 1753, I conclude that it was the listed Frederick who remarried - which would only have been possible after the death of his wife. This does not imply with certainty that the Catherine Masson in the burial record was Frederick's wife, since she may have died on the voyage and Catherine could have been a daughter.spouse: Masson, Frederick (1722 - 1776)

spouse: Beck, Archibald McIntosh (1840 - )Death Note
The death date is estimated from the ages of the children shown living with Archibald Beck and his wife, Lizzy, in the 1881 census. It is believed that none of the children are Lizzy's since the religion of all the children is shown as Catholic while the religion of both Archibald and Lizzy is Methodist.
