
A descendant of John George Bissett, Jr., emigrated to Louisiana in the 1820s to found the Baton Rouge Gazette newspaper. Descendants of Benjamin Bissett came to Illinois in the United States about that same time. Descendants of Joseph Frederick Bissett established a thriving shipping business in Cape Breton in the 1830s and eventually spead to British Columbia and the state of Massachusetts in the United States in the 1880s. Most amazingly, one of the descendants of George Frederick Bissett still farms a part of the original land grant in Cole Harbour!
A lot is known about these Bissetts. Over 1200 individuals have been catalogued as descendants of those original Bissetts who first arrived in Nova Scotia in 1752!
