the prototype version of webGED Progenitor 3.

In August 2002, the webGED Progenitor 2 product was withdrawn because of the increasing difficulties caused by the conflict between Microsoft and Sun over support of Java. At that time, the announcement of the product withdrawal indicated the possibility that a new version of Progenitor might be produced if and when alternate technology became available that could support Progenitor's sophisticated client-side capabilities while not imposing undue burdens on the general range of a website's viewers.

A web-site generated by webGED Progenitor 3 Prototype is presented here. This has been produced in the course of various experiments using "AJAX" technology as a possible replacement for Progenitor 2's reliance on Java. The Progenitor "display-module" used to present this site's genealogy data is completely new and, as in previous versions, does not use any "server-side" facilities.

The results to-date with the prototype have generally been promising and a decision will be made in the next few months as to whether to proceed to a full commercial version. The design target is a product that has all the advanced functional capabilities of Progenitor 2 - with the addition of source citations.
