Funding Request for a feature documentary--

Monte Cassino

"To remain silent in the face of such horrible manifestations of the fury of war…would be tantamount to...cowardly acquiescence, not only in the eyes of our contemporaries, but also in the eyes of future generations." President of the Pontificia Accademia Romana d'Archeologia

FUNDING PROPOSAL for Potential Funders

THE PROJECT
We are an American-based film company committed to telling the  stories of the soldiers and civilians who experienced the terrible battles of the Gustav Line that centered on the Abbey of Monte Cassino. More than a documentary about the military tactics of a half-century-old battle, Monte Cassino will be a 90 minute documentary film designed for a PBS broadcast which will reveal the living memories of a little known WWII battle in which over 30 nations were involved.

We will document a worldwide gathering of WWII veterans as they pilgrimage to the Abbey to redeem what historian John Ellis has called the "hollow victory" of their youth.

The battles for Monte Cassino and the Gustav Line were some of  the most brutal and costly of World War II.   The vivid, human stories of soldiers from all over the world, as well as Italian civilians will be presented through interviews and with archival photos and film, and underscored with wartime and original music.
