Monte Cassino
a documentary film of soldiers' experiences

"I know this is a long letter, and it wasn't meant to be. But I have waited 55 years for something like this to happen, so I guess I went a little overboard. It has taken me eight days to do this, as I could only write so long, and the pain would get the best of me. This is one of the symptoms of Parkinson disease.... Again, I apologize for this, and hope that you an use some of this material. I would really appreciate it. Thank you,
Bill Hartung

  2. What was your personal reason for fighting in this war?
  3. Which Cassino battles were you involved in?
  4. Did you see the bombing of the Abbey of Monte Cassino? Describe it. At the time, what did you feel about this action?
  5. Have you returned to Cassino and the Abbey?
  6. Presently, what is your opinion of your (former) "enemy"?
  7. Do you have any photos, letters, and/or journals from the time?

--Please feel free to include as much detail of your experiences as you wish and to communicate any other personal histories that might be relevant to this film topic--
