Through the prism of Statistics
This section will be dealing with an old and much talked about question: Which was the best football club in USSR, Dynamo Kiev or Spartak Moscow? There are many ways to determine the relative strengths of the teams participating in Soviet Elite League. Many look at the number of trophies won by teams throughout the history, or the last 30 years, or any other period of time. Dynamo Kiev has won the most championships, but Spartak has won the most Cups. Over the last 30 years Dynamo Kiev has dominated Soviet soccer more than any other club. But Spartak has reached the top 3 more often than Dynamo Kiev. On the other hand, Dynamo Kiev's successes on the European arena are impressive while Spartak's - negligible. Also, we have to take into consideration the fact that over the last 15-20 years, countless Soviet National teams had been built on the base of Dynamo Kiev. But, clearly, these are all separate criteria, which do not work well together. I have for some time been working on creating a rating system, which would include all these data (as well as points, over limit draws and so on) to solve this age-long question, Dynamo Kiev or Spartak Moscow
