



Igor Belanov played for Dynamo Kiev 5 seasons (1985-1989). In 1979-1980, he played 68 games (16 goals) for the Second League team SKA Odessa. He came to Kiev from Chernomorets Odessa where he spent 1978, 1981-1984, 1995 seasons. For Chernomorets he played in 119 USSR and Ukrainian Championship games scoring 27 goals. In Kiev he played further 121 games with 39 goals. As a member of Dynamo Kiev, he was a USSR Champion in 1985 and 1986. Belanov also had 33 appearances for USSR National team with 8 goals. As a Soviet National he was among the leading scorers at 1986 World Cup. Also participated in 1988 European Championship. In 1986 Igor was a member of Cup Winners' Cup winning Dynamo Kiev team.
For great results on UEFA and World Cup arena that year, Igor was announced the Footballer of the year. His branded burst of speeds earned him very significant reputation in Europe. A prestigious German Kicker magazine even called him a Rocket.
Igor, among the first Dynamo Kiev players left USSR for lucrative contracts in Europe. From 1989-1994 he played in Europe. In 1989-1990 he played in Borussia Menchengladbach of Bundesliga, where he scored 4 goals in 24 games but was involved in confrontations with coaches and management. These conflicts had forced him to leave Borussia and join a third division Aintracht Braunshweig where he played from 1991-1993.
