Resolutions Passed by the Green Party of San Juan County

October 2001
The Green Party of San Juan County (GPoSJC) strongly supports the statement of the Green Party of the United States on the terrorist attacks on the United States issued in the press release of October 11, 2001 (see http://gpus.org/articles/9_11_01.html ).

This statement reads, in part:

"...in seeking to prevent further terrorist attacks in the US and elsewhere, the Green Party urges our nation to reassess our government's policies and actions, which at worst, may have served to justify terrorism in the minds of our attackers and their sympathizers, and at least, may continue to be sources of frustration and anger for many freedom-seeking peoples around the world."

GPoSJC is doing its part to urge our government to reassess its policies and actions; but we believe that such a reassessment is not likely to take place. The current bi-partisan power structure is so addicted to the money coming in from the global corporate exploitation of the Third World that it will never be able to kick the habit.

Since the Green Party is the only viable political body in the United States with a benevolent and just foreign policy platform plank not based on exploitation, the Green Party must increase its efforts to field candidates and get them elected .

GPoSJC therefore suggests a simple and effective approach to be voiced by state and national Green candidates for partisan office: They (the bi-partisan power structure) have not kept and will not keep us safe. Their foreign policy, which they refuse to change, puts us in danger. If any of us ever again hope to sleep untroubled in this country, vote Green. It’s a matter of life and death.

We believe that this approach will so resonate with the US public that the problem will not be getting Greens elected, but rather finding qualified Greens willing to run for office and win.

And we need to start now!

Regarding the weekly Tuesday night anti-Iraq War peace vigil at Memorial Park in Friday Harbor

The Green Party of San Juan County unequivocally endorses this event and encourages Green Party of San Juan County members and everyone else to attend these vigils.  We deplore recent attempts by certain individuals and organizations to disrupt these vigils in clear violation of the First Amendment.  Further attempts to deny First Amendment rights to participants in these vigils will result, not in reciprocal violence, but in massive public and legal efforts to ensure that these rights are preserved.
