Could This Uproar Be Happening?

I can't believe what I've been hearing. All this commotion, confusion and agitation over fixing American health care, including worries over what it will cost and who will be helped. Lots of nonsense is going on - talk of death panels, talk of offing grandma (which is especially irritating for me to hear!). All kinds of crazy business is going on. People at town hall meetings are making spectacles of themselves with fear and panic written all over them. If they could just calm down for a few sane
moments, they might be able to realize that all of their worries are without foundation. If they would only listen to the facts of the situation. Health care reform is needed desperately and it must happen for the economic well-being of the country as well as for individual families.

Why weren't the currently upset and worried citizens standing up and blasting out in protest about the cost of going to war in Iraq? Why weren't they worried about the billions spent on munitions and the mayhem created by Bush/Cheney, who were, incidentally, profiting from the sale of armaments (Bush) and the Halliburton business (Cheney). Why weren't our military adventures overseas protested in town hall meetings or anywhere else? And now all of this outrage over health care? I don't get it. This current administration is trying to help rather than hurt its people. I guess the people have been so generally ill treated in the past that now that they have a chance to be benefited by their new president, they just can't believe it, and instead want to keep their status quo, no matter what, so that they can feel at least at home with their current status. It may not be a good position for them but at least it is a status they can understand. It's bad but they fear it could be worse. That's what they think. Actually it could be much worse without change. If change from the status quo doesn't happen with health care, the consequences will be disastrous. The economy will never recover. The middle class will continue to disappear. The country will become stagnant.

So little children, stay calm and accept the fact that in the past Social Security was passionately protested. Medicare was protested. Medicaid was protested. All of these good things were finally accepted and praised, and the country didn't turn into a socialistic state. Millions benefited. So, just have a little faith. Have a little hope. Fear not. Good results are most likely to come your way with health care reform.

Your grandma is praying for you.
