July 25, 2005 This is a “letter to the editor” that a friend of mine sent out yesterday: Oodles of regards, Grandma
It is time to understand fully the events leading up to the war in Iraq. Therefore, we should support the pending Resolution of Inquiry, House Resolution #375, relating to communications between the Bush administration and officials of the United Kingdom concerning Iraq.

We’ve learned that there were no Iraqi WMDs, no WMD programs, no 9/11 association, no yellow cake purchase, no aluminum tubes suitable for uranium-refining centrifuges and no active or imminent threat to the US. Recently, a “Secret and Strictly Personal -- UK Eyes Only” memo has surfaced. This Downing Street Memo summarizes a July 23, 2002 Prime Minister’s meeting on Iraq during which he was told that the Bush administration wanted to remove Saddam Hussein, “through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy.” This information resulted from a Washington briefing of a senior British intelligence official by his US counterpart. The memo has not been refuted. Was our own intelligence being manipulated, as the Downing Street memo implies, to legitimize Bush’s agenda? We need to know! The families of the nearly 2,000 soldiers killed, and 12,000 seriously injured need to know. I call upon all citizens and all media to press for a thorough investigation of the facts relating to the Downing Street Memo. Call your Congressmen; write your media outlets Let’s get to the bottom of this!
