It really bothers me that someone like George W. Bush can nod and wink, use one of his zippy slogans and be elected to the highest office in the world. Whatever happened to “Honesty Is the Best Policy?” The word “compassionate” has absolutely lost its meaning altogether, thanks to the Big Guy. To say nothing of the word “conservative.” G. W. Bush doesn’t conserve anything, especially in his plans for the environment.

And the word “values,” my goodness, that word has hit the skids completely. Although, you have to hand it to him, Bush gets a lot of mileage out of words we formerly thought of as words of merit. I want my own zippy slogans, something I can say whenever I get a chance to speak to the opposition. Maybe something like “Leave no ghost behind,” “Clear skies for the angels...” Stuff like that.
