He was selected, not elected. He was selected by the Supreme Court that didn't seem all that "supreme" after it chose G. W. Bush as president because actually he didn't get the majority of votes cast.

Gore got 50,999,897 votes while Bush only got 50,456,002 votes, and those 2 last votes were from his ever doting parents.

And if we the people aren't absolutely appalled by what Bush has done while acting as president, then we must be dead, or at least comatose! It's a sad story.
