Things Have Come to a Pretty Pass

I used to wear a beautiful gold and diamond cross. But now I don't. And I worry these days when I see someone wearing a cross. Are they right wing right makes right advocates for the Christian religion over all other religions, especially the Muslim religion? Do they sanction violence in the name of God's goodness? Do they think white Christian people should rule the world? Has the cross of Christians become a scary symbol?

Also when I see a car, or especially when I see a truck, flying an American flag, I wonder. Is the driver a right wing macho? Does he believe that his country, right or wrong, is the greatest country in the world? Does he think his flag should be honored over every other flag in the world? Does he believe in unilateral preemptive war strikes of military shock and awe? Can these punishments be perpetrated on other sovereign countries because of a hunch that other sovereign countries might be a threat to our American way of life, our lifestyle, our natural manifest destiny?

I know my fears and speculations on these symbols, the cross and the flag, appear to be strange and maybe even outlandish, but I never would have believed that such a thing as the "Patriot Act" could have come into existence in our country or that our Bill of Rights could be in jeopardy or that war profiteering would be happening because our US firms are working with our US Army's Corps of Engineers in the Middle East. I never could have imagined that one day I would be afraid of a person wearing a cross or a person displaying the American flag. Times are indeed very strange.
