“The Commander”

On November 19, 2002 President G. W. Bush is quoted in the Washington Post as saying:

I’m the commander - see - I don’t need to explain - I don’t need to explain why I say things. That’s the interesting thing about being the President. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don’t feel like I owe anybody an explanation.”

That’s not Edward G. Robinson snarling, or Christopher Walken looking evil, or Clint Eastwood speaking through his clenched teeth. No, these movie tough guys have nothing on the President of the United States when he says, “I’m the commander - see...”

And if G. W. Bush is elected again, the people of this country will endure four more years of this stupid kind of arrogance and inadequacy because this president is missing the point of being president.
