". . . the end of all thinking is the removal of doubt, just as the end of all nervous action is the removal of the source of irritation." Charles S. Peirce, Writings of Charles S. Peirce: A Chronological Edition, Vol. 4, page 42.
Welcome to my home page. You will find a variety of my interests and URL's for more information. As a brief introduction to who I am, I am primarily interested in how we learn--including the techniques that work best for learning, contexts for learning, the theories for learning, and the neurophysiology for learning. What follows is for interested surfers, scholars (some working papers are and will be appended), teachers looking for some ideas, and my students.
Education includes a baccalaureate degree in chemistry from Sterling College, Sterling, Kansas, a master's in higher education administration, and a Ph.D. in philosophy of education, both from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Publications include chapters in books, essays in Proceedings of the Midwest Philosophy of Education Society, journals, and newsletters. Publications focus on learning theory, from a psychological to an anthropological perspective. I have done extensive study of the semiotic of Charles Sanders Peirce, many of the American pragmatists, neuophysiology and the chemistry of learning, and have presented papers at national and regional meetings in philosophy, chemistry education, psychology, sociology, and continuing education. I have consulted with the American Association of Schools of South American and established educational programs overseas. Memberships in professional associations include several in philosophy, education, and the American Chemical Society. I am currently teaching honors chemistry, earth science, and astronomy at Harrison High School, Kennesaw, Georgia. Our school has over 2500 students.
