It is not easy for us to part with dogs once they have become part of the 'family'. Unlike many breeders who seem to find it easy to place adult dogs that don't work out, we tend to keep them. Although they did not turn out as show dogs, their value in our home is not diminished. How they develop genetically is not of their control and we love them just as much. The only way we can place a member of our family with someone else is to be 100% convinced that they will be just as well loved and cared for in the new home. We recognize that in some cases, outstanding homes can offer more individual attention than we are able to give here. If it makes sense for the dog, we will consider placing an adult dog. Although we have several dogs we would consider placing, we will not give specific details here. This is a process for us. We need to get to know potential owners personally. This will involve lots of dialog. Certainly we would want to meet at some point to introduce dog to potential buyer to see how they feel about each other. Ultimately, we would visit the potential home - where ever it is. To us this is much like an adoption process. The only way we can let them go is if we know in our hearts that it is right without a doubt. We don't own any problem dogs. They are all wonderful, with individual personalities to match up with the right home. If you are interested in a quality adult Sheltie please contact us by Email with details of your home, desires, and qualifications. Be patient and understanding. This is very hard for us. Another option, for those considering an adult dog, would be one of the many rescue dogs that are available. As a member of the Central Virginia Shetland Sheepdog Club (CVSSC) and American Shetland Sheepdog Association (ASSA) we are often called upon to help place pure bred Shelties in need of a new home. Also, for those who are less rigid in their requirements for a Sheltie, we live very close to a wonderful 'no kill' shelter called Caring for Creatures. This shelter is over run with loving dogs and cats in need of homes. Let us know if we can be of assistance in arranging for a rescue or shelter adoption. |
