Our life's been good, this house is blessed, With Shelties more than we'd have guessed. The first one took us by surprise, His happy face, his loving eyes, Caught hold our hearts in such a way, We miss him to this very day. When mem'ries of past times unfold, That Sheltie had a Heart O' Gold. As years went by, our lives were blessed, With many others, sable dressed. One liked to swim, another snuggle, To care for them is fun, not trouble. They bark, they play, then bark some more, They scratch upon the sliding door. We love them when they're shy, or bold, Our Shelties have a Heart O' Gold. A litter here is rare, at best. Once each two years we make a nest. The breeding planned with utmost care, Brings puppies sweet, makes mamma bare. She cares for them, we socialize, Want one, keep two, then watch their size. The others to good homes are sold, Our Shelties have a Heart O' Gold. To shows we go, with hopes expressed, But win, or lose, we do our best, To grace the game with sportsmanship. If someone's rude we bite our lip. Our dogs are sound, of that we're sure. We couldn't ask for any more. But better still, by peers we're told, Our Shelties have a Heart O' Gold. They're all so great, we'd be hard pressed, To pick one out from all the rest. They jump, they wag, they love and kiss, Their Sheltie ways add daily bliss. They sleep on bed, or couch, or chair, But make a move and flash, They're there. For warmth in Winter's harshest cold, Our Shelties have a Heart O' Gold. With grace they age, my fear confessed, It stings to lay them down to rest. They add to life more than they take, They live their lives for others sake. They don't complain, or ask for more, Than love returned, from rich, or poor. In faith and trust we'll always hold, Our Shelties with a Heart O' Gold. John E. Rueckert March 26, 1994 |
