The NSAI
bulletin for the Los Angeles area Workshop
November-December 2000
Year in Review
It has been a great year for both the workshop and many of our individual
members. Highlights include appearances by guest speakers Steve Seskin,
Jason Blume, J.D. Martin, Jan Garrett, and our Adopt-a-Shop pro Vince Melamed.
Nashville pros Danny Arena, Sara Light, Kim Copeland, and Susan Tucker
have all contributed to our Mini-Song Camp program. The monthly Songwriter
Lineup at Hallenbeck’s has emerged as LA’s premier songwriter showcase.
Many of the individuals who regularly attend our workshops have experienced
significant advances in their songwriting careers. Here are some of their
accomplishments:
-
Moke Cameron’s song, "Getting Close" co-written with Craig Lackey
and Larry Vail was signed to a publishing contract with RPM Music
in Nashville, Tim McGraw's publishing company. It was the first song Moke
ever demoed.
-
Larry Vail's songs, "The Gift", cowritten with Craig Lackey,
and "The Difference is Love", cowritten with Nicky Berns,
were picked up by Noel Nutt at Horipro Publishing in Nashville. Larry's
song, "The Choice", co-written with Jeff Stewart, was picked up by Steve
Bloch of Southern Cow Music in Nashville.
-
Craig Lackey's song, "Even the Angels Knew", co-written with Cathy
Carlson and Marty Axelrod, was placed in the NBC TV show "Passions".
-
John LeGrande’s song, "What's One More Heartache", co-written with
Seth Jackson, has been recorded by Chris Curtice for his upcoming
album on Ancy Records. The song is slated to be the title track.
-
Seth Jackson has been nominated for the Most Promising Male Songwriter
award by the Tennessee Songwriters Association International.
