Important Announcements

The NSAI Los Angeles Regional Workshop announces two important changes:

1) Due to the increased cost of parking around Musician’s Institute, the location of the workshop will change.  Starting now, the workshop will meet at Kulak’s Woodshed, 5230 1/2 Laurel Canyon Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91607.  Admission will continue to be free for members and $10 for non-members, however, donations will be accepted to cover used of the venue.

 2) To take advantage of technology and to reduce mailing costs for the workshop, email will replace the hardcopy “Country Notes” as the means of communicating the workshop schedule and special events.  If you have not been receiving email updates, send an email to Craiglack@aol.com and we’ll add your address to our electronic mailing list.  The workshop schedule will also be posted on the World Wide Web at www.SethJackson.net.  If you do not have email, you can continue to receive Country Notes by US Mail, but you must complete and mail a request to Craig Lackey at 1045 Third St., #205, Santa Monica CA 90403.

We believe these changes represent improvements that will reduce costs for both the members and the workshop, and they will enable us to serve you better.

  • Sunday, Jan. 20, 4:00-7:00pm, Goal Setting Workshop at Kulak’s Woodshed. Having clearly defined goals can help us progress in both our personal and professional life.  The new year is an excellent time to evaluate where we are, where we’d like to be, and steps we can take to get there. Craig Lackey leads us

  • through his comprehensive goal-setting program at our annual kickoff meeting.
  • Sunday, Feb. 10, 4:00-7:00pm - Group Song Critiques at Kulak’s Woodshed. Bring a song to play live or on tape, plus 15 copies of your lyric sheet.  Lyrics can also be critiqued.

  • Sunday, Feb. 24, Mini-Song Camp at Kulak’s Woodshed.  Picture yourself in pictures! Picture yourself writing songs that listeners want to hear again and again! Including pictures in your lyrics is one of the key techniques you can use to accomplish this.  While this applies to all genres of songwriting, it is of particular importance to writers of country songs.  We’ll work on this critical songwriting tool using

  • a lesson created by Grammy-nominated songwriter and popular songwriting teacher Harriet Schock. Harriet is the author of the book “Becoming Remarkable”.
