May-June '05 Workshop Schedule

Thursday, May 12, 7:30-10:30pm - Songwriter Lineup at Hallenbeck's General Store, 5510 N. Cahuenga Blvd, North Hollywood.  Hosted by Marty Martin. Featuring MARCY BARUCH, MARTY AXELROD, FRAN LUCCI, EVAN BRAU,  LISA GERTZ, DAVID SERBY, NICOLE GORDON, JOHN STOWERS, DENISE BRADLEY, AND KELLY FITZGERALD.

Sunday, May 15, 7:00-10:00pm at Hill-Harbison House - Group Song Evaluations. Song evaluation are one of the most valuable ways to improve our current and future work. Receiving critiques helps us to understand how our songs are coming across to impartial listeners. Giving feedback to others helps us develop the skill to better refine our own songs.  These workshops are also a great way to meet potential co-writers. Bring a song on CD, cassette, or to play live plus 10 copies of your typed lyric sheet.  Lyrics only can also be critiqued.

Sunday, May 22, 7:00-10:00pm at Hill-Harbison House - Publisher Pitch.  Jimmy Muffin, Creative Director of Nashville publishing company Ash Street Music, will be listening for songs for film and TV as well as for the Nashville market.

Muffin has been a fixture in the LA songwriter scene for many years and a longtime supporter of NSAI.  For those not familiar with him, here is a some more info:

Jimmy Muffin has been inspired by music his whole life.   He has been an artist, manager, producer, and performing songwriter for over 20 years.  He also produced weekly songwriter nights for many years at several top local venues including the “World Famous Palomino” and Jack’s Sugar Shack.  He is a passionate live performer who connects instantly with his audiences.  He has performed around the country and in France and Italy appearing on the same bill with some of Nashville’s top performing songwriters such as, Kostas, Jeffrey Steel, Al Anderson, Billy Dean, Gretchen Peters, Tia Sillers, Mark Selby, Jamie O'Neil, Chuck Cannon, Gary Baker, Mark D. Sanders, Walt Aldridge, Deana Carter, Danni Leigh, and more.  In June of 2002 he was appointed VP of Creative Development for Ash Street Music Publishing in charge of signing and developing writers; and has signed an exclusive writers deal with the company as well.  His song “Stand Tall America” dedicated to the 9/11 tragedy co-written with Gary Baker (“I Swear”) and Jerry Williams was featured in the documentary film “one voice/ the healing pole” and  is currently the lead song on “The Inspiration New York” CD to help raise money to rebuild the Twin Towers.  In 2003 he was appointed Creative Director of BEAMS (Breckenridge Educational and Music Seminars. (beamsonline.com).  He remains a key building block in the L.A. And Nashville songwriting communities. You can hear a sample of his material currently at www.soundclick.com.
