January-February '06 Workshop Schedule

Thursday, Jan. 12, 7:30-10:30pm - Songwriter Lineup at Hallenbeck's General Store, 5510 N. Cahuenga Blvd, North Hollywood.  Hosted by Marety Martin. Marty Martin has a special group of selected LA writers that function as a publishing company.  On this special evening, they will showcase some of their work.  Featuring Marty Axelrod, John Stowers, Evan Brau, Ross James, David Serby, Tommy Holmes, Johnny Hawthorne, Craig Lackey, Fran Lucci, Denise Bradley, Lisa Gerwitz, Nicole Goedon and Kelly Fitzgerald. Free admission.

Sunday, Jan. 15,
7:00-10:00pm at Hill-Harbison House - Goal Setting. Start off the new year on the right foot! Make 2006 a big year! Having clearly defined goals can help us progress in both our personal and professional life.  The new year is an excellent time to evaluate where we are, where we’d like to be, and steps we can take to get there. Alan Frank leads us through his comprehensive goal-setting program at our annual kickoff meeting.

Sunday, Jan. 22, 7:00-10:00pm at Hill-Harbison House - Group Song Evaluations. Song evaluations are one of the most valuable ways to improve our current and future work. Receiving critiques helps us to understand how our songs are coming across to impartial listeners. Giving feedback to others helps us develop the skill to better refine our own songs.  These workshops are also a great way to network and meet potential co-writers. Bring a song on CD, cassette, or to play live plus 10 copies of your typed lyric sheet.  Lyrics only can also be critiqued.

Thursday, Feb. 9, 7:30-10:30pm - Songwriter Lineup at Hallenbeck's General Store, 5510 N. Cahuenga Blvd, North Hollywood. Hosted by James Grey. Performers TBA. Free admission.

Sunday, Feb 12, 7:00-10:00pm at Hill-Harbison House - Pitch-a-Thon with Recording Artist Lisa O'Kane.  Critically acclaimed artist Lisa O'Kane has a solid international base and distribution in the US.  Her style can best be described as "Americana", a combination of folk, country, blues, and pop.  For more about Lisa, visit her website at www.lisaokane.com. Listen to sound clips of her music at her CD Baby site, http://tinyurl.com/79xz9, for a better idea of the type of material she is looking for. Bring your best songs on CD only with typed lyric sheets. We'll go through as many songs as time allows. NSAI members' songs will be listened to first.

Sunday, Feb 26, 7:00-10:00pm at Hill-Harbison House - Group Song Evaluations.  Bring a song on CD, cassette, or to play live plus 10 copies of your typed lyric sheet.  Lyrics only can also be critiqued.
