March-April '06 Workshop Schedule

Sunday, March 26, 7:00-10:00pm at Hill-Harbison House - Group Song Evaluations.  Song evaluations are one of the most valuable ways to improve our current and future work. Receiving critiques helps us to understand how our songs are coming across to impartial listeners. Giving feedback to others helps us develop the skill to better refine our own songs.  These workshops are also a great way to network and meet potential co-writers. Bring a song on CD, cassette, or to play live plus 10 copies of your typed lyric sheet.  Lyrics only can also be critiqued.

Sunday, April 9, 7:00-10:00pm at Hill-Harbison House - Group Song Evaluations.   Bring a song on CD, cassette, or to play live plus 10 copies of your typed lyric sheet.  Lyrics only can also be critiqued.

Thursday, April 13, 7:30-10:30pm - Songwriter Lineup at Hallenbeck's General Store, 5510 N. Cahuenga Blvd, North Hollywood.  Host: Chad Watson. Featuring Randy Sharp plus Craig Lackey, Garret Swayne, Kevin Fisher, Warren Sellers, and more.

Sunday, April 23, 7:00-10:00pm at Hill-Harbison House - Pitch to Publisher with Kye Fleming of Songjourney, Nashville, TN. Hit Songwriter and publisher, Kye Fleming, will visit from Nashville to review songs. Kye is a NSAI 2005 hall of fame nominee, and has been awarded over 45 BMI awards in her career making her one of the most awarded songwriters in country music. Other awards include 3 time BMI Country Songwriter of the Year, 2 time BMI Pop Songwriter of the Year, 2 time NSAI Songwriter of the Year,  2 time Billboard Song of the Year, and others. Her songs have been recorded by artists such as Ronnie Milsap, Barbara Mandrell, Tina Turner, Bette Midler, Joe Cocker, Willie Nelson, Wynonna, The Judds, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Janis Ian, Kennedy Rose, jazz artist Dianne Schuur, and flutist James Galway.

As a publisher she has 8 ASCAP and BMI awarded songs including the 2002 ASCAP song of the year recorded by Faith Hill. Kye, along with Mark Cawley, has launched Song Journey Music, a new publishing company with Simon Fuller, Chris Ogelsby & Pete Evans of American Idol, 19 Music and Native management. This enables them to not only work with writers online through Song Journey.com but also to  sign writers directly though the site. They can offer single song and exclusive writer contracts and.. are currently developing 2 new artists and looking for more.

Admission to the workshop is free to NSAI and WCSA members, #10 for non-members. There will be a $5 charge for each song submitted in order to help us pay for our guest's travel expenses.  Members will receive priority over non-members for submitting songs.  If time allows, we will allow a second submission for an additional $5. What to bring:  Your song on CD plus a typed lyric sheet. Make sure your name and contact information appears on both your CD and lyric sheet.  Fold the lyric sheet and attach to the CD case with a rubber band.
