Craig Lackey's Stage West, the popular songwriter showcase, returns to Los Angeles on March 10 following its successful standing-room-only September debut. Stage West is the place to see some of L.A.'s top up-and-coming country writers backed by Denny Martin's all-star band Tasty Licks. The March lineup includes Jan Daley, Seth Jackson, Craig Lackey, and Larry Vail, plus a showcase performance by band leader Denny Martin himself.

The event, (originally planned for January 28), will take place on Sunday evening, March 10 at 7:30 pm at Grounds Zero in Hollywood at 7554 Sunset Boulevard (between Fairfax and La Brea). Another big crowd is expected, so come early and be ready to hear some great music. A $3 donation is requested at the door.

January 1996 Workshop Schedule

Sunday, January 7, 6-9pm at Musicians Institute, Goal Setting for the Organizationally Impaired

Do you love the creative side of songwriting and hate the business part of your career? Do you sometimes realize that two weeks or two months have flown by and you haven't written a thing? Perhaps you know that you should be networking and pitching your songs, but you just never seem to have the time.

If this sounds like you, please attend this workshop. It will give you the tools you need to boost your songwriting career to the next level while balancing income, family, community, and personal goals.

Reflections on the New Year

by Country Notes Editor Seth Jackson

Like I seem to do every January, I find myself thinking, "I can't believe 1995 is over already!" It's hard to believe all the progress, changes, beginnings and endings, and lessons learned and yet to be learned that have all been packed into the past 12 months.

I'm not big on New Years resolutions, but the new year can be a time to reflect on where I am, where I've been, where I'd like to go in the months ahead, and how I plan to get there. My wish for myself and all of us is that 12 months from now, we'll look back in amazement at just how far we've come.

The Artist's Way (New Workshop!)

NSAI member Nancy Leiviska will be hosting a group to study the writing methods of Julia Cameron, as featured in her best-selling book "The Artist's Way". This book has been highly recommended by hit songwriter Jon IMS ("She's In Love With The Boy").

Join Nancy and fellow songwriters at her Westside home for bimonthly fun as you journey through the chapters of "The Artist's Way". Group size will be limited, serious artists only. Call (310)454-0109.
