The NSAI bulletin for the Los
Angeles area Workshop
May-June 1999
Reese Wilson in LA
by Seth Jackson
Nashville hit songwriter Reese Wilson will travel to Los Angeles
to present an all-day seminar on Saturday, June 12 from 9:00am-5:00pm.
One of Nashville’s top writers, Reese’s credits include the #1 hits “Not
On Your Love” and “She Can’t Say I Didn’t Cry,” as well as Mark
Wills’ “Places I’ve Never Been,” and Diamond Rio’s “It’s All
In Your Head.” In addition, Reese has had cuts with a wide range
of top stars, including Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire, Neil McCoy, Tracy Lawrence,
and others.
In the first half of the seminar, Reese will talk about craft and business
topics including writing tips and tricks, overcoming writer’s block, hit
song analysis, demos, pitching to publishers and producers, and contracts.
There will be plenty of time for Q&A.
The afternoon will be devoted to song critiques. The first twenty participants
to sign up may submit a song to be critiqued. The critiques are designed
to be a learning experience for all, whether or not your song is being
discussed.
Following the seminar, there will be a Hit Songwriters In-the-Round
concert featuring Reese Wilson, Steve Dorff (“I Cross My Heart”),
and a surprise guest. The show will be held from 8:00-10:00pm at
Hallenbeck’s General Store, 5510 N. Cahuenga Blvd., North Hollywood. Admission
to the concert is free for seminar attendees, $10 for all others.
Admission to the seminar is: 1) Full seminar with song critique (limited
to first 20 people to register): $35 in advance, $45 at the door; 2) Full
seminar without critique: $25 in advance, $35 at the door. Call Vickie
at (818)752-7484 for information on how to register. Seating is limited
to the first fifty people to sign up, so be sure to register early.
