TRUST ACQUIRES A TREASURY DIRECT ACCOUNT

In October the Jacob Hunter Trust opened a Treasury Direct Account and purchased a $ 10,000 fiveyear Treasury Note paying 7.5% interest for the next five years. During the life of the T-Note the Jacob Hunter Trust will receive an interest payment of $375.00 in April and October. This interest payment will be deposited from the U.S. Treasury directly into the Jacob Hunter Trust checking account at the United Illinois Bank in Marion. When the Note matures on 10/31/99 the Trust has the option to renew the Note at the rates in effect at that time. We believe this investment provides the Trust the most safety with a reasonable return. We hope to build sufficient resources in the Trust to eventually acquire additional Treasury Notes, thereby insuring perpetual care for our cemeteries. Anyone wishing to donate funds for the purchase of additional Treasury Notes may call the Trust @ 618/985-2814.

TAX EXEMPT STATUS

Some people may benefit from the tax exempt status of the Trust. Judge Robert Hunter Howerton has done some work to insure the Trust remains tax exempt under Section 501(c)(13) of the Federal Tax Code. The taxpayer identification number for the Trust is 376135793.

1994 ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT

The Trust received generous donations from six people during 1994. The year-end balance in our checking account was $3,967.59. The purchase of four grave markers was postponed this year to allow our balance to grow. In future years we hope to purchase monuments for some of the graves where the present markers are broken and weathered. Both cemeteries were maintained throughout the year with regular mowing and minor fence repairs. The 1994 Income and Expense Ledger is enclosed.

MAP TO JACOB HUNTER CEMETERY

The Olde Squat Inn is located just six miles northeast of Marion and only a few miles from the Jacob Hunter Cemetery. It is unique in that it consists of several original Jacob Hunter log cabins from the area, built in about and completely refurbished and moved to their present location at Pittsburg, Illinois.

The very reasonable rates for bed and breakfast are $49.00 per couple or $25.00 single. A five course Country Supper is served Saturday evening. You can reach them at 618-982-2916. They ask for reservations a week in advance.

Robert S Hunter, President

January 16, 1995

Dear Friend of the Jacob Hunter Trust:

I am pleased to enclose Dr. Richard H. Hunter's Annual Report and Account for 1994.

Despite his heavy duties commuting about Illinois and moving back and forth from Springfield to Marion, Dr. Hunter, working with Lawrence Hunter, has continued to make great progress in restoring the cemetery.

They have done so much in making this important project a permanent success. Won't you please see if it is convenient to write a check now to Jacob Hunter Trust and send it:

Dr. Richard H. Hunter Route 3, Box 343 Marion, IL 62959

While in Marion this past summer to meet with one of our authors, Sheila Simon of Carbondale, I visited the cemetery and was thrilled to see the contrast with the sorry condition that existed a quarter of a century ago.

Incidentally, Sheila was expecting her second child. In addition to writing two books for us, she practices law full time, helped her husband through law school and still finds time to make the world's most famous bow ties, her father Paul's. Nothing lazy about that member of Generation X.

There is a unique new bed and breakfast only several miles from the cemetery. I intend to stay there a few days this year as a sort of pilgrimage to Williamson County, the cemetery, and the other historical sites so important to our family.

A description of the bed and breakfast is on the reverse. Maybe we can make this a kind of "headquarters" for the Friends of Jacob Hunter to get together and work for the rehabilitation of the cemetery.

Very truly yours,

Robert S. Hunter
