Excerpt from his Revolutionary War Pension (R4411)

"The applicant further states that he was born on the 17th day of March in the year 1763 and, as he was informed by his parents, in the State of North Carolina, Halifax County. His father moved when he was an infant to the State of South Carolina, Richland County. That he has a record of his age in his possession which was furnished him by a cousin of his. That after the Revolution he resided some time in the State of South Carolina, Richland County, where he resided when he entered the service. He then moved to Spartansburg, South Carolina, he then moved to East Tennessee, Jefferson County, he then moved to West Tennessee, Montgomery County, he then moved to Robertson County where he now resides."

The first record of Thomas Hunter is his receipt of the indents from Revolutionary War sevice of Casper Coon on April 2, 1789, which was used by Casper's son Lewis to discharge the bounty on lands surveyed for Dempsey Hunter and Lewis Coon.

The next record is his purchase of land in 1801 in Robertson County, Tennessee, from Jacob Moake.

This means that between 1789 and 1801, Thomas lived in Jefferson County, Tennessee, and Montgomery County, Tennessee.

This Thomas Hunter should not be confused with Thomas Hunter (1775-1836) who lived in Montgomery County, Tennessee, and was a son of Col. Thomas Hunter of Nash County, NC, although we believe this Thomas to be a first cousin of our Thomas.

He was married to Susan Moake (daughter of Jacob Moak and Mary) before 1789 in South Carolina. Susan Moake was born in 1775 in Camden District, South Carolina. She appeared on the census in 1840 in Robertson County, Tennessee. (46) She died in 1842 in Robertson County, Tennessee. Thomas T. Hunter and Susan Moake had the following children:

child+23 i. Rhapsomy Hunter.
child+24 ii. Daughter Hunter.
child+25 iii. Charlotte Hunter.
